Piers & Pilings

If you've seen a Gibbons pier, you know the difference.

Building Your Dream Dock

Piers/Docks

At Gibbons Marine Construction, we design and build custom residential piers that combine structural strength, smart layout, and full regulatory compliance. Every project is carefully planned to maximize functionality while adhering to the requirements of the Maryland Department of the Environment (MDE) and local county guidelines.

MDE Guidelines

Maryland regulations have specific parameters for residential pier construction.  Our team ensures every design stays within these requirements while optimizing layout for access, boat positioning, and long-term usability. In certain situations, larger structures may be permitted if they are legally existing and grandfathered under previous approvals.

Slip Allowance

For waterfront properties located in St. Mary's County and Calvert County, homeowners are generally permitted up to four boat slips, which may be configured as traditional open slips or equipped with boat lifts, associated mooring pilings as required for safe vessel accommodation and two additional personal watercraft (jet ski) lifts, separate from the boat slip allowance.
We carefully plan slip placement, lift clearances, and piling layouts to ensure safe navigation, structural integrity, and full compliance with both state and county standards.

Built for strength

Every pier we construct is built to handle the demands of the Patuxent River, from changing tides to seasonal storms and everyday waterfront use. We install marine-grade, pressure-treated pilings that are professionally driven and properly spaced, reinforced with heavy-duty framing and corrosion-resistant stainless or galvanized hardware to ensure lasting durability. If you’ve ever seen a Gibbons pier, you know they’re stout, solid, and built to stand the test of time. Our focus is on long-term performance, minimizing maintenance while protecting your waterfront investment.

Consulting & Design Services

We evaluate your shoreline conditions, water depth, existing structures, and property layout to determine what is allowed for piers, lifts, bulkhead replacement, shoreline stabilization, and piling installation. Our team develops practical design solutions that maximize your waterfront use while remaining fully compliant with state and county guidelines. From initial feasibility review through layout planning and permitting strategy, we provide clear guidance so you can move forward with confidence and avoid costly delays or revisions.
